Changing Perceptions Strictly Speaking

Strictly Come Dancing has made an enormous impact on the way mainstream society views dance. It has partly been responsible for dance class fitness such as “Zumba” and the new “FitSteps”:  (http://fan.fitsteps.co.uk). Thus making the Great British public to “Keeeep Dancing” this is done through a mode of entertainment. It also shows how accessible dance is for everyone and how much amateur contestants develop and accelerate through their learning. Like it or not it has changed peoples perceptions.

American guest judge Donny Osmond commented on contestant Steve Backshall and his partner should take him clubbing to “find his body” My opinions and Donny’s was that his upper body though built and muscular was to rigid and stiff and I agree with Donny! Some stuff in the Jazz aesthetic can’t be taught in a studio or classroom!

Ideas on this was that it strikes a chord on my research in Jazz Dance and how a lot is passed on in communities at the nightclub and how it takes a less formal person to thoroughly study Jazz practically because theirs a feeling from the music

“New Orleans jazz music is contrived to make the listener move, gyrate and wiggle, and this kind of music seemed to fit naturally into my body and flow through my bloodstream.” Giordano (1975:V)

These feelings unlike ballet that is cranium lead it comes from the stomach in Jazz (Giordano: 1975). From your gut that’s where you feel the music, that’s where you can feel soul and that’s where the magic happens.

There are a lot of theories presented on why Jazz Dance can be studied through academia and at BA level, (Dr Kym Vaccaro). However I now feel a lot of energy can be wasted on the fight, which could be channeled into creating something and finding the right way in channeling your theories.

In my research of Jazz Dance It has been hard tracking down specialist literature and African practice. My class in Liverpool was cancelled, so I am definitely looking forward to the term ahead practically and theoretically.

What are your perceptions on Jazz Dance? Mine have changed significantly so far and can’t wait to share more.

Lastly please view this video below on my new favorite choreographers [Friedman B & Marshall Y] their work is stellar and pushes peoples perceptions of commercial dance through barriers of gender. It definitely reminds me of how bizarre and surreal my life was as a Funny Girl in Blackpool two years ago and how much my life has changed now. And how perceptions shouldn’t be built with walls. What are your perceptions?

A PROCESS OF LAYERING

AOL’s

Think of yourself as a diagram on a big blank sheet of paper within a circle this is you, and you’re CV it’s all the same, all apart of your professional practice. You’re a practitioner. Around the circle you have spike’s coming out it’s a “mind map”, a “spider diagram”. What do you want to write an essay on? What occurring skills do you have? What experiences stand out think of your AOL’s, as I like to call them: "Job Description essays". When you have a CV you list your job description, your credentials, experience, CPD courses and so on. Then you back it up with the literature and evidence/illustration. My advice is to do whatever strikes a chord with you what your passionate about it will spur your essay on.

And then with referencing learn how to:
“Cite them right!”. Buy a copy today!

It’s all about finding a process that works for you. The course is a process of layering. I spoke about how Module One is getting you ready for the up-coming modules, especially academic writing skills.

Find a process that helps you when I visualize new information, for instance when learning an abundance of choreography it sits with me quicker when I have a visualisation method.

Refer back to the handbook week by week make notes, highlight and get familiar with the handbook its your friend a beacon of light. Look up people within the community earlier blogs we were all on Module One!

An image I blogged about is a "Three circle step" it really helped me try and find it! It's from the beginning of last term I think......!

It was a great idea splitting up the two groups as everyone had a chance to be heard. Also thank you so much to everyone talking about the artefact with me it really cleared up the factuality referring it back to my own perceptions on my own research of Jazz Dance and it’s roots.

Lastly here is my "Arc" doodle…. Don’t judge my drawing skills! Believe it or not my Father use to design aircraft!

This is for the module 3’s page 10 handbook.......

Each number represents the inquiry activity:
Opening Yourself Up

1)       Opening up to experiences
2)       Collection of field data
3)       Reading literature
4)       Critical review essay
5)       Artefact
6)       Oral presentation
           AND 7) ANALYSING EVERYTHING! (REFLECTION)

GETTING VISUAL

I thought this film of me at the airport was interesting a visual projector on the floor.

After Identifying some similar themes on everyones blogs about the creative process, imagination, technology and creativity has anyone thought about what Dance Classes might be like in the future? In blockbuster motion picture visual arts are prevalent and becoming more and more advanced if we think back to Jurassic Park and what the technology is like in Avatar it's mind blowing!

If the facilities were available what about curriculums that brought this technology into the dance class? Children emulating their biggest dinosaur or swimming with colourful fishes choreographed to a combination.Do you think this technology would be beneficial to children's creativity?

We also have video games on the Nintendo WII: Just Dance, "bust a move" games were in true Jazz Dance nature rivalry is friendly gang competition.

Would you bring the digital revolution into your classroom?
